2016, Measure of America and

Area: Civic

Type: Journalistic

Medium: Information Visualization

Although every New York City neighborhood is unique, neighboring communities are very similar based on some measures. To understand how neighboring communities are alike or different, this visualization presents the results of a spatial analysis of 110 different social measures. For every measure in the dataset, each community district was identified as being above or below the median value for that measure. A spatial analysis then determined how the above median and below median districts were clustered. This visualization focuses on the geographic arrangement of the data and reveals, sometimes unexpectedly, how certain measures are concentrated in one part of the city.
